It's Morphin' Time (MMPR:TLG Test Footage)

Research Methods

My Power Rangers project is aimed to be a live action short.

The original idea is to have a fight scene between a Power Ranger and a costumed villain; this will be filmed live action footage. The fight is planned to last around 30 seconds to a minute, effects such as sparks and lasers would be added here using software programs.  Now after the fight sequence finishes, like in the show the villain will “grow” to a tremendous size, causing the Red Ranger to call for help. I have the original toy Tyrannosaurus Zord the Red Ranger has in the show, so I got an idea on how to make this next idea work. Thinking back to what we did in our integrated project last year, involving rotoscope, gave me a great idea to rotoscope the Zord and bring it into the scene. Here I can jazz it up with after effects, and maybe even create some texture in Maya, like rubble and ground elements, then bring that in too. When the villain sees how scary the tyrannosaurus Dino Zord is he will retreat, and that will be the end of the short.

Below are idea props and guidelines.

The Project!

Project Brief
For this project you will produce a 30 second to 1 minute short for presentation and assessment.
The piece of work will demonstrate appropriate and creative use of the software’s used in this module.
This will include:
·         Use of text
·         Use of 3D animation
·         Digital footage
·         Keyframing
·         Relevant use of effects and filters

Rationale
The emphasis of this project is to make an elegant well thought out and executed piece of work that illustrates appropriate use of technique and software.

You should aim for a high standard of production to present to the rest of the group

Guide Lines
Your project should contain at least six moving layers of digital assets in the timeline
Your work should contain appropriate audio
The project should be no more than one minute long
Your journal should contain evidence of ideas, inspiration, storyboards and information gathered for the construction of the project.
Create a brief written treatment and story board to be presented to the group in an informal crit situation.

Assessment
Date
You will hand in a folder containing evidence of:
  • a written treatment
  • a storyboard
  • a written / verbal evaluation
  • DVD master of project
  • Journal
